7. Looking back at my preliminary activity task, what do I feel I've learnt in the progression from it?

Preliminary Activity

Music Magazine

You can see from my music magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread, compared to my preliminary activity school magazine front cover and contents page, that my skills have improved vastly from it. This is because I have had more time on using fireworks so I have developed new skills which made my music magazine look a lot more professional. I also learnt, from the preliminary activity what looks good on a magazine front cover and contents page. For example in my preliminary activity I have used the same font on the front cover, so there isn't any font variation. As I didnt have font size variation in my preliminary activity, I used it on my music magazine, as it created emphasis on certain words. I also learnt to take pictures for my magazine in a much more professional way, instead of just going around school and taking pictures of random people. I learnt about camera shots and angles which helped me take pictures for my music magazine. When I took pictures for it, it was planned out like an actual photoshoot. I used a white background so it looks like it was done at a studio, whereas in my preliminary activity the images had things in the background. As I learnt to take pictures against plain backgrounds, this meant I could create visual syntax more carefully on my page. I also found out that using one model instead of two is more effective on a front cover. When making my music magazine I was able to compare and bring ideas from existing products, which meant my work was more planned and thought out. I also identified who my target audience was and brand identity and values, which meant I was able to cater my products towards them. Overall I feel I have learnt a lot from my preliminary activity as I learnt what looked good and what didn't.
